This week’s snowstorm was a welcome site for the North Lake Tahoe Resorts as they get ready to kick off the annual Snowfest! celebration on Friday.
This will be the 31st year that North Lake Tahoe comes alive with 10 days of fireworks, parades, contests, parties, races, fundraisers and more.
Some of the highlights include:
Friday, March 2:
Snowfest! Opening Ceremonies
7 – 7:30 p.m., Squaw Valley
Featuring a torchlight parade, fireworks and music by the Space Cowboys DJ’s.
Hot Dog 80’s Retro Party
9 p.m., Cornice Cantina, Olympic Valley
Pay tribute to “Hot Dog, The Movie” which was filmed at Squaw Valley, Dress as your favorite movie character and enjoy the music and dance moves from the era. Word is some of the local celebrities that were in the film will be guest bartenders.
Saturday, March 3:
Tahoe City Snowfest! Parade
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Downtown Tahoe City
Enjoy the parade and stay for an afternoon of activities including an ice cream eating contest.
Gar Woods Annual Polar Bear Swim
2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m., Gar Woods Pier, Carnelian Bay
Watch (or enter if you dare) as these fearless souls swim 225 yards in 40 degree
water.
Sunday, March 4:
Rahlves’ Banzai Tour – KT-22 Banzai
9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Squaw Valley
Head to head, top to bottom course over natural terrain.
Tahoe City Golf Course Dog Pull
12 p.m. – 2 p.m., Tahoe City Golf Course
Dogs of all shapes and sizes complete on a 75 foot long snow track.
Saturday, March 10
Rahlves’ Banzai Tour Final & Super Final
9 a.m., Sugar Bowl
Snowfest! Kings Beach Parade
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
A variety of events and activities follow the parade.
Sunday, March 11
Rahlves’ Banzai Tour Final & Super Final
9 a.m., Sugar Bowl
River Ranch Annual Snow Sculpture Contest
12 p.m., River Ranch Lodge at the entrance to Alpine Meadows
3 person teams will have 3 hours to create the best snow sculpture.
Tahoe Donner Ididarun Dog Pull Race
1 p.m. – 4 p.m., The Lodge Restaurant, Northwoods
Dogs pull “covered wagon” sleds in a race to raise money for the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe.
Gourmet Ski Tour at Tahoe XC
1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Tahoe Cross Country, Tahoe City
Bring (or rent) your cross county skis or snowshoes and tour gentle trails while stoping to enjoy gourmet food and drinks from some of Tahoe’s finest restaurants.
