Winter has arrived in the Sierras. Tahoe resorts have reported 6″ – 40″ of new snow this week, with more to come. A cold front and heavy snow are expected Friday and Saturday blessing the slopes with another 1-2 feet by Sunday morning. Expect snow to trail off on Monday.

Weather permitting, the slopes will turn green with a host of St. Patrick’s Day events:

Find the Pot O’ Gold
Join the annual Pot O’ Gold Hunt at Sugarbowl on Saturday for a chance to win a 2012/13 Midweek Pass. Spend the day hunting for clues that are scattered around the mountain that lead to the coveted gold pot.

Dress like a Leprechaun
Come to Alpine Meadows St. Patrick’s Day Apres Ski Party on the sun deck dressed in your best St. Patrick’s Day costume for a chance to win a Camelbak full of swag. Costumes will be judged from 1pm-4pm. Enjoy Irish food specialties and drink specials while enjoying live music.

3 days of Irish fun
Squaw’s SnowBash party kicks off Friday with DJ Magic Matt at the KT Base Bar. Saturday you can ski with Lenny the Leprechaun, then head to the KT Base Bar for a pig roast and Irish beer. Enjoy traditional Irish music on Sunday from 3-5 at the Village Events Plaza.

Scavenger Hunt
The hunt is on at Northstar this Saturday from 1:30-4:30. Search for clues and earn EpicMix pins. Head to the Lodge at Big Springs for an Epic apres party.

Bring the dog
Northstar will host a Snowshoe Social and Race to raise funds for the Tahoe-Truckee Humane Society. Participants will be allowed to bring their dogs on the cross-country trails for this special event.
