With the holiday crowds gone, January is the perfect time to take a trip to Tahoe for some winter fun. Alpine Meadows celebrates the start of the 2012/13 season with party sunny skies and 4 lifts in operation. Summit Six, Roundhouse, Meadow and Alpine Bowl are open with packed powder and groomed runs. Ski/ride free on your birthday

Homewood Mountain Resort has a special birthday gift for you – a free day of skiing or snowboarding on your birthday! Simply present your driver’s license or ID with date-of-birth proof at any Homewood lift ticket window. Free birthday lift tickets are subject to the following holiday blackout dates: Dec. 26-31, 2011; Jan. 14-15, 2012; Feb. 18-19, 2012.

Troops ski for free

The following resorts offer free skiing and riding for U.S. Military personnel with a valid ID: Squaw Valley: Complimentary lift tickets for active duty military members every Sunday through Friday, excluding holidays.
