Burton Mountain Festival coming to Northstar

The 2nd annual Burton Mountain Festival Tour makes a stop at Northstar this weekend. Resort guests will be treated to a free day of  live entertainment, Burton 2013 product demos, giveaways, and a mini park for young snowboarders 4-6 years old. The festival will take place January 4 – 6 at the mid-mountain village. For more information, visit Northstar.

Opening dates for Tahoe resorts

With snow in the forecast today through Saturday, resort openings are right around the corner. Boreal has been open on and off for a couple of weeks, but is currently closed until further notice. 36 inches and counting

This week’s snow fall has resorts anticipating a prosperous holiday season. As of noon, Wednesday, Alpine Meadows reported 36″ of fresh snow, Sugar Bowl has 34″, Heavenly has 16-20″ and Squaw Valley has received 32″. Heavenly and Northstar plan to open on November 16th, followed by Squaw Valley on November 21. Alpine Meadows will open on December 7th. Boreal has traditionally claimed the earliest opening with a tentative date of October 26th, and snow making has begun. Stay tuned.

Alpine Meadows has always been one of my favorite resorts in Tahoe. For me, it has just the right mix of terrain, amenities, fast lifts, close parking, easy access and customer service. Tahoe ski resorts are gearing up for another early season. Each year, the resorts hire thousands of winter sports enthusiasts for jobs ranging from retail sales to ski patrol. Shawn White inks deal with Northstar

Vail Resorts, Inc., announced Tuesday a multi-year partnership with snowboarder and Olympic gold medalist Shawn White to represent Vail’s six resorts, including Heavenly and Northstar at Tahoe. Northstar at Tahoe will become his home mountain and primary training resort starting this winter. The deal includes a new 22-foot halfpipe designed by White.
